How long can synthetic dreads be worn?

Synthetic dreadlocks can be worn for around 2 months. If you want to leave them in longer, make sure to take them out after an absolute maximum of 3 months.

This is because you lose 80-100 hairs each day, those hairs will stay in the section and will come out when you take your dreads out.

The longer you leave your dreads in, the more loose hair, the more knotty it will be and the harder it will be to comb your hair out again

How do I sleep with my dreads?

To prevent frizz, sleep on a satin pillowcase or use a satin bonnet. It will protect your roots from getting frizzy. You can wear your dreads in bed just the way you want, up or down, without any other protection.

This satin pillowcase or bonnet is so soft that it will not damage your hair and dreads when you keep turning at night.

How do I wash my dreads?

Wash your scalp once a week. Just wet your hair and spray the Cleaning spray shampoo on your scalp, in between your dreads, rinse with water and repeat if needed. Avoid rubbing in the shampoo, because this will only cause frizziness. Cleaning spray shampoo is easy to rinse out so by using this shampoo you will avoid having residue in your hair (which can cause itchyness)

If you prefer to use a liquid shampoo, it is best to use a refillable shampoo foamer bottle. The foam is easy to apply to your scalp and also easy to rinse out. The big benefit of the foamer bottle is that you do not need to rub your scalp and dreads a lot with your fingers, so it also prevents frizz.

Do not wash your dreads more than once a week, less is even better. You can use a showercap to keep them dry. This way you will maintain the durability of your dreads and your hair will be less frizzy.

If your hair or scalp gets oily in between washes use a refreshing spray. Refreshing spray has a cleaning effect and can be used as leave-in shampoo between washes. It also will make your dreads and scalp smell fresh and wonderful.

How do I dry my dreads?

Wrap your hair in a towel after washing them. Using a microfiber towel will reduce the drying time of your dreads with 50%, because the fiber absorbs 10x more water than a standard towel.

Your dreads will absorb water and this will make them heavy. This can result in your dreads to sag down a bit (especially if you have short hair) You can prevent this by wrapping your dreads in the towel and letting them dry on the top of your head.

After 15-30 minits remove the towel and leave the dreads to air dry. It will take a few hours before all your dreads are completely dry, this is why it is best to not wash your hair right before you go to bed.

You can use a blowdryer or a dryer bonnet to speed up the drying process.

What to do if my scalp is itchy?

When you wear dreads your scalp can get itchy. Usually the first two weeks the itchyness can be the worst, because the dreads are braided in quite tightly against your scalp, and your scalp has to get used to all the sections, after that it will get better.

A refreshing spray or rescue tonic is the best solution. Just spray on your scalp between your dreads and it will calm down, ease the itchiness and give your scalp some nourishment.

When you get a rash on your scalp or along the hairline, do not panic, this will go away after a while. The rash is not an allergy because all our dreads are made without a chemical coating. This rash is a reaction of the scalp to the tension. Use conditioning oil on the rash to ease the itchiness.

How to remove my dreads?

Use a seamripper to cut the elastics. Then just unbraid the dreads, you can use the pointy end of a pin tail comb for this. When you unbraided all the dreads, you will have gorgeous curly hair!

Next you can wet your hair and apply a hairconditioner or mask. Leave this in for a couple of minits to make your hair softer and deeply nourish it. Then start brushing combing out your hair. Start from the ends of the hair and work your way up to the scalp.

If you have very long hair or hair that tangles easyily, you can leave your conditioner or mask in your hair for a night. Take an old tshirt or towel, wrap it around your head and go to sleep. Combing out your hair the next day will be super easy.

It is good to know that normally you lose about 80-100 hairs every day. All these hairs have been collecting in your braids while you were wearing your dreads. So you will comb out a lot of loose hair, this is normal!

After brushing everything out, wash your hair a couple of times with shampoo. If you want you can use a nice hairmask after washing yur hair.

How to handle your reusable dreads?

The Dreadlock Hippie synthetic dreadlocks are of high quality and can be reused countless times. We advice you to wash your dreads after removing them. You can do this by hand with shampoo, but you can also put them in the washing machine!

Put your dreadlocks in a washing bag (or pillowcase) and wash them at a maximum temperature of 30 degrees celcius. Use by preference a liquid detergent, or even better, use your dreadlock liquid shampoo and do not use any fabric softener.

After washing the dreads hang them on a drying rack, do not put them in the dryer.

Now you can store the dreads for the next time. When you want to reinstall your dreads, I recommend waiting at least a week before installing them again. Your scalp can still be a bit sensitive after removing your dreads and it is not pleasant if the dreads are put back in immediately. It is also better for your scalp and hair to get some rest.

How to care for partial dreads?

With partial dreadlocks you have a part of your hair still loose, this is often on the top of your head. The partial dreads are usually located in the neck and on the back of your head.

For your loose hair you can keep using your own shampoo. Avoid using conditioner in your own hair. There is a chance that this conditioner comes in contact with your dreads when you rinse it out and that is not what you want. Because conditioner makes the hair soft and smooth which can cause the dreads to slip down.

When you prefer to wash the loose hair more often than the dreads, you can wash your loose hair in the sink while bending over, this way you do not get your dreads wet.

It is important to seperate your loose hair from the dreads every day. Your hair can tend to stick to the dreads and get knotted. When sleeping it is best to wear the loose hair seperate from the dreads in a bun or braid, to prevent the hair getting tangly in the dreads, and to prevent damage to your loose hair while moving or rubbing over the dreads.
